3 Answers3. You can get an NM cable stapler at a supply house or home center, that is if you can fit it into this area. Also, we many times use our linemans pliers to pound staples. Sure, it's not the intended use, but in a tight spot many times they work perfectly. Hit with the face where the cutters are.

Any way to remove old wiring from wall that is stapled without removing plaster/lath? Send a cable or wire down the wall and attach it to the bottom of the wire if possible. It should pull up, releasing the staples as it goes. You don't have to remove it, you could just clip it and use a different one.

Maybe try guessing where the staples are and cut a hole in the wall there. If you get lucky, pull out the staples. Keep doing that unill all the staples are found and removed, then use the old wire to pull the new wire through. Best case scenario, you only have two holes to repair instead of 20. Good luck!
